Statement on “Unjust Treatment of National Convener, Imam Bahsir Ali During the 2014 Mosque Cares Annual Covention”

Midwest Imams

O you who believe, stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others prevent you from being just. Be just, that is nearer to piety and reverence and respect Allah, for Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do. (Al-Qur’an 5:8) And Surely Allah Speaks the TRUTH.
The Midwest Imams associated with the Community of Imam W. Deen Mohammed have prepared this statement to express our profound disapproval and to condemn the disrespectful and unjust treatment of our National Convener, Imam Bashir Ali, by The Mosque Cares security staff, who:
Escorted Imam Ali out of the culture night activity
Informed Imam Ali that he was not welcome to attend The Mosque Cares Convention Activities and
Attempted to bar Imam Ali, the National Convener (selected by the Imams), from attending and convening the Imam’s meeting that was scheduled for the 2014 The Mosque Cares Annual Convention this past Labor Day Weekend, in Tinley Park, IL.
We strongly urge W. Deen Mohammed II, and his staff, to issue a public and/or written apology to Imam Bashir Ali, as he (Imam Ali) was unjustly removed in public after driving several hours, checking into the hotel and paying a registration fee to attend the convention to show his support for W. Deen Mohammed II and The Mosque Cares Convention, as he had encouraged other Imams to do.
Even when select Imams stated they had no plans on attending, Imam Bashir Ali would tell them: “Although some Imams may have some disagreements with him, W. Deen Mohammed II is our brother, and he deserves our support… I’m going to Chicago to show my support.”

According to Imam Ali, when he asked why he was being removed and prevented from attending the convention, he was told that W. Deen Mohammed II gave orders to have him removed because of a statement letter that Imam Bashir Ali issued at the request of the Imams, after they had taken shuraa and reached a consensus.
The consensus was that although we recognize W. Deen Mohammed II as the President of The Mosque Cares, and although he has the right to join any organization he chose, or represent The Mosque Cares in any way he sees fit, he does not have the right to represent our community (the community in association with Imam W. Deen Mohammed) without taking shuraa with that community and gaining their approval.

This letter was first requested by the Sectional conveners, who also assisted in the drafting process. If W. Deen Mohammed II wished to disassociate himself with the author of the letter, it was unjust to single out Imam Bashir Ali who upheld his obligation as convener but still wanted to support his “brother” W. Deen Mohammed II and his efforts.

Imam Ali posed no threat, nor did he cause any disruption to this event, and the stated mission of the Mosque cares is: to serve People, Community, and Humanity and inculcate the high principles and values of the Qur’an and the excellent model of human life, Muhammed The Prophet (prayers and peace be upon him).
Further, the Vision of The Mosque Cares is: A more just, free and G-d conscious public.

Allah ta Ala says to us in Quran as a way of reminder:

????????????? ???????? ?????????? ??????????? ??????????? ????????? ????????? ?????????? ??????? ??????????? (2:44)

“Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practice it) yourselves, and yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand?”
(Al- Qur’an 2:44)

How do we see ourselves as inculcating the high principles and values of the Qur’an and the excellent model of human life, Muhammad the Prophet (prayers and peace be upon him) when we treat our brothers in this fashion? What example are we setting for the rest of the believers that we are asking to practice righteousness?

Would Muhammad the Prophet (prayers and peace be upon him) have had Imam Bashir Ali removed from the culture night and prevented from attending convention activities behind a letter that he didn’t like? We think not.

According to the reports, when there was an individual that threw trash in the Path of Rasullulah, (sws) the Prophet, (pbuh) didn’t have her dealt with or removed; in fact, on the occasion that she was not there to do so, he went to check on her to assure she was ok because she was not there to torment him.

Would Imam W. Deen Mohammed, our teacher and the father of W. Deen Mohammed II have had Imam Bashir Ali “banned” and removed?  We think not.
Imam W. Deen Mohammed stated on several occasions that many of the people working closest to him; including Imams, were actually working against him; yet he never had any of them “banned” or removed.
We understand that sometimes, we as humans allow our feelings and emotions to get in our way and we think on our own; not relying on the help of Allah ta Ala, so we make mistakes.
What we are asking is that W. Deen Mohammed II acknowledges that a mistake was made publicly and that he corrects the mistake that he made publicly. To do this is a sign of a true Muslim Leader.
While we understand that we have no authority to demand that he do so; we pray that W. Deen Mohammed II’s own soul will obligate him to do what is fair and just.
Allah ta Ala says:

“O you who believe, stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it be a one who is rich or poor; for Allah is nearer to both of them. So follow not your own desires, lest you deviate; and if you swerve or turn aside, then surely Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do.”  (Al-Qu’ran 4:135) Surely Allah speaks the Truth.
Please remember, whatever good we do is for the benefit of our own souls; whatever evil we do is to the detriment of our own souls.
It is imperative that a response (inshaAllah the correct response) is offered to our request as soon as possible. This matter is bigger than Imam Bashir Ali and W. Deen Mohammed II.
Currently, the removal by security of Imam Bashir Ali as his security said was instructed by W. Deen Mohammed II is being discussed throughout our community. And we are concerned that this has the potential to further disunite our community.
We pray that not only will W. Deen Mohammed II offer a public apology to Imam Bashir Ali, but he will also agree to and honor a sit down meeting between himself, members of The Mosque Cares board, Imam Bashir Ali and Sectional Conveners, so that they have the opportunity to talk through any differences, real or perceived.
We should all understand that we will not always agree on every matter; however, in the end, we are all still brothers who believe in Allah, who strive to follow the excellent example of Muhammad the Prophet (prayers and peace be upon him) and who are striving to be successful living this great way of life Allah has preferred for all mankind – Al-Islam.
Therefore, it is imperative that we find ways to work cooperatively together for the success of our Ummah.
We pray that this will be received with the spirit in which it was meant; and we pray that Allah ta Ala will raise us all to the best of our human excellence.
As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu!
